Polar Electroceramics
project reference: G5RT-CT-2001-05024

R&D activities in the field of polar electroceramics and dissemination of their results to industrial users, leading to innovative products and setting environmental standards.

Start Date >> 04/01/2001
End date >> 03/31/2007
Duration >> 72 Months
Actual cost >> 2.28 M€
Number of participating countries >> 25, coordinated in Denmark

Project Description
The aim of POLECER (Polar Electroceramics) is to identify key areas for development within polar electroceramics, coordinate R&D activities in the field, pursue efficient dissemination of their results to industrial users, support implementation of emerging technologies leading to new products, to bring Europe to the forefront of technological development and strengthen its competitiveness by means of innovative products and setting environmental standards. POLECER will organize and support co-operation between European regions including the former Eastern Europe and stimulate exchange of young scientists from different countries. POLECER will organise annual workshops to ensure information flow and dissemination of results and 5 focused workshops to create a common platform for scientists and industrial users to facilitate the co-operation and fast implementation of results. It will organize a database of expertise and a database of host institutions.

Role in the project

  1. Cooperation with other R&D centers and dissemination of research results concerning thick films based on relaxor ferroelectrics.
  2. Cooperation with Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne - Laboratoire de Cèramique, Switzerland - deposition, patterning and sintering treatment of PMN-PT green tape, screen printing of PMN-PT thick films on silicon and alumina substrates and firing in multizone furnace.
  3. Realisation of two research projects financed by State Committee for Scientific Research connected with relaxor ferroelectrics and dissemination of the results.

The project was funded by the European Comission as part of the FP5 program (FP5-GROWTH, contract no. G5RT-CT-2001-05024).
